Summary -
John McKenna will provide guidance on landscape photography locations around Glencoe and Rannoch Moor for up to five photographers.
All locations will be relatively easily accessible with no location being more than a 40 minute-walk from the nearest parking spot and none more than 100m elevation from the roadside.
John McKenna will provide guide services to and from each location and will be on hand to offer photographic hints and tips. No formal photography tutorials will be offered while on location but every attempt will be made to ensure each photographer has the opportunity to spend some 1-2-1 time with John during the course of the day.
Itinerary
The day will begin at a sunrise location (meet up approximately 06:00) - where we will shoot the sunrise across a loch on Rannoch Moor. After this we will head towards Glencoe, stopping at several locations along the way, including views of the Buachaille Etive Mor, Glencoe’s lone tree and the famous Three Sisters.
We will stop for a brief lunch (NOT SUPPLIED) before heading to a dramatic waterfall location, followed by an hour or so of relaxing woodland photography. Our final location will be a sunset shoot at the Torran Lochan viewpoint - a viewpoint soon to be lost as the lochan is scheduled to be drained early in 2026. (Note: if Lochan has already been drained, sunset location will be moved to an alternative spot.)
Participants will be responsible for their own overnight accommodation (if required) and their own transport to and from each location.
Parking charges, lunch, snacks and any other non-specified expenses are not included in the workshop fee.
Participants will be responsible for their own insurance.
Total cost for guided workshop (13hr-day): £360 per person - previous workshop attendees using supplied discount code: £270 per person.
Recommended footwear and protective clothing
Conditions in Glencoe in late March can be unpredictable. Rivers which are normally passable with care may become impassable at short notice, while snow falls and heavy rain pose a constant risk.
At all times the prevailing weather conditions will dictate the availability of each location. Shoots may be cancelled or cut-short should weather conditions deteriorate while on location
Where shoots are cancelled due to weather conditions, attendees will receive a credit for use on future workshops.
No refunds will be given due to cancellation caused by poor weather.
Final value of credit will depend on when the cancellation occurs. (morning cancellation - 50% paid value credit / afternoon cancellation - 25% paid value credit)
It is recommended that all persons taking the workshop wear appropriate waterproof footwear for walking on wet, slippery and potentially icy rocks. Waterproof and thermal clothing is highly recommended as are accessories such as gloves, hat and snood / face protection.
Spare, dry clothing should be available wherever possible.
Cancellation
Free cancellation of the trip is possible until March 15th. (Refund value: £360 (£270 for attendees using previous workshop discount))
Cancellation of the trip after midnight (UK time) on March 15th shall incur a fee of £50 to cover incurred costs. (Refund value: £310 (£220 for attendees using previous workshop discount))
Insurance
All insurance, including camera insurance, health insurance and travel insurance is the responsibility of workshop participants. John McKenna accepts no liability for accidental loss, injury or damage however caused.
